We have come to the end of the semester and unfortunately this will be my last blog post. Today I want to share with you that although we are in a digital world, traditional media should not be counted out of your considerations. If you and I truly want to be successful marketers we can not be philistines with no tactic and strategy, but rather have a strategic understanding and choose the media that deliver on that strategy.

For those of you who do not know, Traditional Media can be defined as media which allows businesses to target a broad target audience through billboards, print advertising, television commercials, and more.
Over the last few years, Traditional Media marketing methods like those you have relied on have declined in popularity among consumers. Now that potential customers can use new channels like the Internet, websites, and social media to research and discuss companies, they can choose to draw their own conclusions on where to take their business—and ignore advertising that suggests otherwise.
That's one reason why new media has pulled ahead in the debate between traditional media vs. new media. Consumers have also become less receptive to traditional media now that they are able to tune it out. Commercials can be skipped, radio stations can be changed, mail can be thrown away, and banner ads can be blocked. This means that marketing methods are often ignored or even seen as ineffective. Below is the link to a great video on the evolution of traditional media.
Overall, I believe that traditional media, although not as used today as it once was, still has an unlimited amount of opportunity and is often far better of an option than new media. It is important to recognise that Traditional media is still a very effective method in todays world, please let me know of any great traditional media campaigns you remember, like the great ones on TV or maybe one you have heard on the radio. Thank-you for reading :)

Great blog! I definitely agree that Traditional Media still holds power and shouldn't be ignored within a brand's marketing strategy. I think a great way to go is a mix of both traditional and new, to ensure you're reaching wider audiences and touchpoints. What do you think? Thanks for your comment Zeynap! Exactly, traditional media like the ads we watched as kids are so ingrained in our heads and prove how great of a marketing outlet traditional outlets are. I also remember those unsafe driving ads and they definitely worked on us 😂
Great read Mark!! I still sometimes read magazines when I’m at the hairdressers and stuff. I really don’t want these sort of things becoming extinct!! My fav magazine is actually Frankie. I own quite a few and I find them so fun to read. The biggest campaign I remember are probably the unsafe driving commercials like “you bloody idiot” and also AAMI Rhonda ad 😂😂
